How having a motorcycle accident can be good for your computer skills !
I could use 2 fingers on my right hand and still could type blindly with my left hand.
Problem is, if you use your left hand to move the mouse, you continuously need to reposition your hand on the home row.
(I guess I was used to reposition my right hand after 15 years of touch typing)
So, I started to look for different ways to work with the computer.
First I found an application called Enso.
Enso is an application that gives you a command line in windows by pressing the caps-lock key.
It sounds crazy, but you should really check it out, after a couple of days you won't want to work on your computer without it.
So Enso helped me use my mouse a little less than normal, but I still needed the mouse allot.
Maybe an other keyboard with a build in mouse pad could help me?
So, after looking at different keyboards in some local shops, I bought the Logitech diNovo keyboard.
This is a must have keyboard. Besides being good looking, the keyboard has a nice touch to it and has a mouse pad i can use with my right hand.
Now being able to touch type again, I started to look for ways to leave my hands more on the home row. The big problem when developing code is that you need to move the cursor with the up/down/left/right keys. Every time you do this, your right hand leaves the home row.
For this, I now have found an other great utility: TouchCursor.
What it does, is enabling you to add new keys by pressing <space> + a key. It's like an extra Alt key.
Now, after some training, I can develop code, moving the cursor, selecting text while leaving my hands in the home position for most of the time.
So, in the end, I now have a better environment to work in, thanks to my motorcycle accident.

Re: How having a motorcycle accident can be good for your computer skills !
Why, this is really a good way of handling accidents: Just trying to get the best out of it :-) Instead of wasting time with self-regrets and complaining about life, the world, and everything, one should try keep up the spirits. I admit that this is not always possible, but in your case you made it happen.
I guess I will check the applications you mentioned because I am also frequently annoyed that I have to remove my hands from the keyboard and to grab the mouse, especially while developing.
