What is BrainStreamer? You Ask.
The best thing I could find was Mind Mapping software, but this also has its problems when trying to use it as a general knowledge management system.
- Mind mapping software currently works with different mind maps. I need 1 very big mind map.
- Mind mapping doesn’t have different information types. (example. Items to keep general notes, projects, people, company,). It is all 1 general freeform node type.
- The most important thing I am missing in most PIM and mind mapping software is the possibility to connect an item to multiple other items. For example: I have defined a project in my software. If there is a meeting about it with somebody, I would like to see a link from the meeting to all the people involved and a link from the meeting to the project. If I look at the project for example, I should be able to see the link with the meeting about it.
- I want to be able to work with BrainStreamer anywhere I want. This means it has to be working over the internet.
- No duplicated information. If something is related to a person for example, I should not have to re-enter this person in the system. I should just link to it.
- I want others to view and edit parts of my data. When you put everything in one place, it is sometimes necessary to have others view or edit this information. For example working on a project together with somebody else. So the system should enable you to work with multiple users and with the proper security.
So this is the software I am currently creating.
The first public version will be March 15 2007.
